Hi, I'm Lexi Scott and welcome to my world of cooking and gardening in New York state's lower Hudson Valley!
I've been a passionate home cook for almost two decades and absolutely love to entertain and host parties all thing's related to food! I grew up in a small town in Vermont, with home grown vegetables every summer, but didn't appreciate or understand the value of these skills I was taught at a young age until my mid twenties. I had a very busy childhood with sports from ski racing, horseback riding to soccer so dinner time was never a formal affair. I do remember so many good home cooked things from warm cinnamon buns, potato salads (which is now something I am known for making!), to fresh bread and delicious cheesy pizzas.
In 2002 I met up with my sister in New Zealand to backpack for a couple months, which turned into a year long travel where I met my future husband and had the fortune to explore New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Mexico. And man I fell in LOVE with food, HARD! I had never in my life experienced the smells, the fragrances, the flavors or the traditions of any of these countries. Individual flaky pastry meat pies, mushy peas and gravy, I mean OMG! Spicy green curry's with lemongrass, galangal, and kaffir limes leaves, I had no idea what these things were but I knew Ioved Thai food!
After my year abroad I decided to finish my bachelors degree in England where my husband is from and ended up spending 6 years there. Here is where I had the fortune of meeting my mother in law who is an amazing home cook! The knowledge and traditions that were passed down to her from many generations of woman in her family was incredible. Watching someone cook in such a formal style was completely new to me, and I loved it! Every meal was together at the table, the cutlery a certain way, napkins perfectly folded and china that had it's certain occasions. My father in law, a larger than life Scotsman, always sat at the head of the table, loved deep discussions and a glass or two of wine. I loved how FOOD brought us together like that beyond a major holiday, where the whole family gets together. Over my six years in England I was able to travel to multiple countries through-out Europe and continue to be a student of different cultures and food.
When we moved to NYC in 2011 we decided to first back pack around Central and South America for seven months since neither of us had been there and this could be our last chance to do a major trip like this. The magic and celebration of food in the countries we visited just solidified my passion to cook and share what I could with others.
Currently I'm cooking and growing vegetables in the house we built in 2017. Thanks for hanging out with me! I hope I can inspire you to get in the kitchen and try new things.
Xo, Lexi
